York-Adams League coaches select 2023 girls' volleyball all-stars

The York-Adams League has announced its girls' volleyball all-stars for the 2023 season.

League coaches selected first and second teams, as well as honorable mentions, in all three divisions. Each division also honored a Player of the Year, with two teammates tying in voting and splitting the honor in Division III.

In Division I, New Oxford's Makenzie Adams was named Player of the Year after tallying 215 kills and 217 digs across 18 matches (51 sets) for the Colonials. The senior beat out a loaded field that included Spring Grove's McKenzie Boyer, the reigning Player of the Year who had 257 kills and 166 digs for the Rockets, and Dallastown's Kira Lynch (277 regular-season kills). New Oxford finished 6-12 overall and 3-9 in a stacked division, and the Colonials had no other all-star selections. Adams, though, was a force all season long against any competition.

York Suburban sophomore outside hitter Colbie McKenna is the Division II Player of the Year. McKenna registered 232 kills, 203 digs, 36 aces and 22 blocks in 54 regular-season sets (15 matches) for the Trojans, who went 12-0 in the division and finished the season 12-5 overall. Teammate Carrie Stump was named a first team all-star despite playing in only six matches before suffering a stress fracture. Suburban has now had the last four D-II Players of the Year, with McKenna joining Makenna Stockton (2022) and Eliana Rodgers (2020-21).

Two Delone Catholic standouts will share Division III top honors after helping lead the Squirettes to an outright division title. Senior setter Campbell Chronister adds this recognition to her Player of the Year selection in 2022, but junior return specialist Meredith Keefer also grabbed a piece of the award this season. Chronister tallied 554 assists, 99 digs, 57 kills and 40 aces in 66 regular-season sets. Keefer notched 267 kills, a .308 hitting percentage, 43 aces, 76 digs and 27.5 blocks in 63 sets. The Squirettes went on to reach the league and district semifinals. The No. 5-ranked team in the PVCA Class 2A rankings never got its shot at No. 1 Trinity, though, as York Catholic upset Delone in five sets to reach the district final, where the Fighting Irish were swept by the unbeaten Shamrocks.

Two Y-A teams will compete in the state tournament next week. Dallastown (24-2) is District 3's No. 3 seed in the Class 4A bracket; the Wildcats' only losses this season came to Wilson on Sept. 2 and on Halloween in the district semifinals, with division and league championships in between. Spring Grove, meanwhile, hosted the District 3-3A final on Thursday but fell in five sets to Middletown, giving the Rockets a No. 2 seed and a matchup with District 12 champion Lansdale Catholic next Tuesday.
