Three days after capturing York-Adams League boys' tennis singles crowns, Dallastown junior Hayden Koons and Bermudian Springs senior Parker Sanders both repeated as league doubles champions on Tuesday.

Koons and Jacob Horn won the Class 3A tournament title with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Susquehannock's Derek Baughman and Dominic Dion at South Western High School in Hanover. On the same set of courts, Sanders and Tyler Chenault secured the Class 2A league championship with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Littlestown brothers Cyrus and Isaac Marshall.

Fifty-two weeks earlier, Koons won the 3A doubles title with then-senior Andrew Chronister while Sanders teamed with Eli Snyder to claim the first Y-A tournament crown in Bermudian Springs boys' tennis history.

Both teams, and both stars, left no doubt.

Koons and fellow junior Horn, who placed third in the 3A league singles tournament, won all eight sets in the doubles bracket with no frame getting closer than 6-2. Sanders and Chenault, meanwhile, added four straight-set triumphs as the 2A top seed. Sanders is also 20-0 without dropping a set in singles this spring.

Central York's Kai MacLennan and Joshua Haupt defeated York Suburban's Jackson Miller and Caden Hall 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the Class 3A third-place match. Hanover's Nolan and Noah Chronister bested West York's Ryan Steele and Kevin Vu in 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 fashion to take the bronze in Class 2A. The top three finishers in both tournaments earned automatic berths to next week's District 3 doubles tournament at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Survive and advance: The league doubles tournaments began Monday afternoon with 24 tandems in each bracket and the top eight seeds receiving byes to the Round of 16. Both fields were narrowed to four by Monday evening. The semifinals began at 2 p.m. Tuesday at South Western, with championship and third-place matches immediately following.

Seedings were agreed upon by league coaches last week. The doubles tournament is generally more difficult to handicap because most top players only compete in singles during regular-season matches. Among Tuesday's eight competing squads, only Hanover's Chronister brothers were a doubles tandem throughout the spring.

The bracket, however, unfolded largely as expected. The 3A semifinals included the first, second, third and fifth seeds, while Tuesday's 2A action included Nos. 1, 2, 5 and 6. The Chronisters, seeded sixth, beat No. 3-seed Hanover teammates Cullen Nakielny and Brian Corona 6-3, 7-5 in Monday's quarterfinals. Steele and Vu beat No. 4 Collin Kuhn and Sebastian Fielding of Delone Catholic by the same score that afternoon. Class 3A's fourth seed, featuring South Western's Compton Speck and Wade Heffron, was eliminated in the Round of 16 by Dallastown's Sebastian Ruiz and Nathaniel Erickson, a regular-season doubles pair.

After Monday featured 3A early rounds at Red Lion High School and the 2A tournament at South Western, the final eight teams were in the same place Tuesday. Koons and Horn handled Miller and Hall 6-1, 6-1 in the 3A semifinals, while Baughman and Dion outlasted MacLennan and Haupt 6-4, 6-4. The Class 2A final was set after Sanders and Chenault beat Steele and Vu 6-2, 6-3 while the Marshalls defeated the Chronisters 6-2, 6-4.

Busy week ahead: The champs won't get much of a chance to regroup, as Dallastown and Bermudian Springs will join Central York and Hanover among York-Adams League teams competing in the PIAA District 3 team tournament Wednesday afternoon. All four teams had a doubles tandem in action Tuesday. Koons, Horn, Sanders and MacLennan will play their 10th total match in seven days Wednesday.

The District 3 singles tournaments begin Friday and conclude Saturday in Hershey. Koons is the No. 2 seed in the 3A bracket and could be in line for a rematch against Hempfield's Cooper Lehman, who defeated Koons in last year's district final after Koons had multiple match points in the second set. MacLennan and Horn are also in the field, while Baughman is the first alternate after placing fourth in the Y-A tourney. Sanders is the No. 3 seed in the 2A tournament, with Kuhn and Eastern York's Wesley Crumling also in the field while Steele is the second alternate.

The district team tournaments will continue with semifinals next Monday and finals next Wednesday. The district doubles championships will be held Friday and Saturday, May 10 and 11, in Hershey. Because the state singles and doubles tournaments take place simultaneously, state qualifiers in singles will be replaced by a teammate in the doubles bracket if applicable. Last year, Horn filled in for Koons and paired with Andrew Chronister to finish third at districts.

A jam-packed postseason will conclude with the state team tournament May 14, 17 and 18 and the concurrent singles and doubles championships May 24 and 25.
