Greg Guidinger is officially the leading scorer in Central York boys' basketball history.

The senior forward achieved the feat with 15 points in the Panthers' 71-37 victory over Elizabethtown at the Hempfield Holiday Tournament on Thursday evening. He overtook Rob Keller's 1,252 points — a mark set in 1986 — for the top spot.

Central York improved to 8-2 with the victory. The Panthers finished third in the tournament after stumbling to a 61-50 loss Wednesday against Wilson (Guidinger had 13 points in that contest). Hempfield slipped past Wilson for the tournament title on Thursday night.

Guidinger, a 6-foot-7 Swiss army knife with a smattering of NCAA Division I offers, is averaging exactly 20 points through 10 games this season. He's gone over 23 points five times, including a 30-point showing in a Dec. 16 loss at Father Judge when Central was without fellow D-I college prospects Ben Natal and Ben Rill.

The Panthers have only had six 1,000-point scorers in the history of their boys' basketball program; Guidinger joined the club during the District 3 Class 6A playoffs last season. Natal and Rill, both juniors, could be in line to join the list late this season or early next year. The trio helped steer Central York to the York-Adams League tournament title in 2023, and this season's Panthers carry arguably the area's most loaded roster in years. They earned a statement win over reigning PIAA Class 6A champion Reading in their season opener on Dec. 5.

Guidinger has remained the centerpiece of the program's ascent. He broke into the starting lineup as a freshman, and the Panthers went just 1-9 when he missed 10 games due to injury as a sophomore compared to 10-2 when he was in the lineup. Guidinger was named York-Adams Division I Player of the Year as a junior and leads the division in scoring so far this season.

Central York will return to the floor on Jan. 5, 2024, at South Western. The Panthers' next home game isn't until the following Friday, Jan. 12, against Northeastern.

Schieler reaches 200: A milestone week at Central York actually began Wednesday afternoon, as Panther girls' basketball coach Kevin Schieler secured his 200th win as a high school varsity head coach with a 48-30 semifinal victory over Westminster (Md.) during Central's Panther Holiday Tournament.

The Panthers claimed the tourney title on Thursday afternoon, beating York Catholic 49-39. Their 9-2 record this season pushes Schieler's career mark to 201-119.

The first 192 of those wins, though, came on the boys' side. Schieler coached the Central York boys from 2011-20, posting a 166-77 record and winning a pair of league titles before stepping away from coaching for three years. He previously went 26-40 in three seasons at Littlestown, which has since become a premier program in Y-A Division III.

Central York coach Kevin Schieler celebrates as the Panthers won the York-Adams League boys' basketball title on Thursday night.

Schieler moved to the girls' side this spring to replace Scott Wisner, who was forced out of coaching after being diagnosed with brain cancer in January. Wisner was credited with 401 wins in 24 seasons over two stints with the Panthers. Central York's girls lost six seniors and four starters from a state quarterfinal squad, but have reloaded to remain one of the top teams in the district.

While Schieler and Guidinger never directly overlapped — Jeff Hoke took over the boys' program in 2020 prior to Guidinger's freshman season — but they have remained close with Schieler still in the building as a math teacher. Perhaps it's fitting, then, that they reached career milestones one day apart. And they both appear poised to add plenty more points and wins as the season continues.
