Anita Ellen Ersoy

Anita Ellen (Downs) Ersoy of Eldorado Hills, CA, formerly of York, passed away on April 9, 2024, after a brief fight with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

Born in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late James D. and Beatrice B. (Bortz) Downs.

She is survived by her husband, Levent to whom she was married for 44 years; a son, Sercan and his wife Raquelle of the San Francisco Bay area; a daughter, Selvi and her husband Glen of Hawthorne, CA; and granddaughter, Robin. Two sisters Carol Brady and her husband Dave and Julie Bensel and her husband Bryan, both of York; nieces Alyse and her husband Adam of Brevard, NC, and Corinne and her husband Brock of Dover, Ilkim and her husband Mayukh of California; a nephew Dinc of Turkey and a great-nephew Leon of California.

Anita grew up in York and graduated from William Penn Senior High School in 1971. She earned a Bachelor's degree from Chatham College in 1975 and a Master's from the University of Pittsburgh in 1977. In 1980, she and her husband moved to the San Francisco Bay area where she lived, raised her two children, and worked as a paralegal for a top law firm until, upon retirement, they relocated to Eldorado Hills.

Anita was a kind-hearted person who cherished her family and friends and was full of life and love for everyone around her. She enjoyed travelling, dancing, singing, shopping, and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter.

A Celebration of Life Service was held on April 27, 2024, in Folsom, CA. Donations to support research of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease can be made at cjdfoundation.org.
